‘Saving Pets Challenge’ to benefit Young-Williams Animal Center

Shelter competing to win $50,000 from Michelson Found Animals

Young-Williams Animal Center, the official animal shelter for the City of Knoxville and Knox County, is seeking donations to help the organization win $50,000 from Michelson Found Animals. The proceeds will help care for the 11,000 animals the shelter takes in every year.

For the fourth year, Michelson Found Animals, founded by Dr. Gary Michelson, is sponsoring the “Saving Pets Challenge,” an online fundraising campaign for animal welfare organizations focused on reducing euthanasia. Animal shelters, rescue groups and spay/neuter clinics from around the country are competing for more than $150,000 in grants for innovative programs that expand lifesaving capacity in their communities.

Young-Williams joined the challenge on CrowdRise, the largest crowd-funding platform for three years in a row.  Last year, the organization ranked 30th in most dollars raised out of more than 500 agencies across the country. The goal this year, is for Young-Williams Animal Center to be in the top 10.

“We’re so grateful for supporters like Michelson Found Animals and CrowdRise that want to help our community’s pets,” says Janet Testerman, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center. “I hope all of our supporters and advocates will contribute to help us reach our goal. We care for nearly 11,000 homeless pets a year, and these dollars will help cover daily care of the dozens of pets we receive each day.”

The Saving Pets Challenge launches on CrowdRise today, and runs through June 1, ending at 1:59:59 EST. The team that raises the most during the challenge wins a $50,000 donation; second place, $30,000; third, $20,000; fourth, $10,000; and fifth, $5,000. Weekly bonus challenges enable charities to win up to an additional $35,000. Young-Williams will keep 100% of the money raised.
