Knoxville Urban Wilderness

This 1000-acre area situated within the city limits of Knoxville is a haven for adventurers. This spot offers over 50 miles of hiking trails that take you through lush forests, creeks, and historic sites. It also has several off-leash dog parks where dogs can play off-leash and run around freely. The main hiking trail that is popular with dog-owners is the Will Skelton Greenway, which is an easy 2.5-mile walk and offers a beautiful view of the river.

 

 

 

Ijams Nature Center

Another pawfect spot to hike with your furry friend is the Ijams Nature Center. This spot boasts over 300 acres of protected wildlife, making it an excellent place for your dog to explore different sights and smells. The hiking trails of this nature center are well-maintained, and there are plenty of spots to stop and take in the scenic view. House Mountain State Natural Area

If you want to challenge yourself and your furry friend, then head to the House Mountain State Natural Area, situated only 20 minutes away from Knoxville. This spot has two trails that lead up to the summit of House Mountain – the West Overlook trial and the East Overlook trail. It is a moderate-to-difficult hike, but the view at the top is breathtaking, making it all worth it. Do keep in mind that dogs must remain on their leash.

Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge

If your dog loves the water, then the Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge is a must-visit spot. This location is situated on the French Broad River and boasts a variety of wildlife for your dog to sniff around. The walking trails are well maintained, and the length of the trails varies from 2-6 miles one way. Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area

This wildlife management area is situated just outside of Knoxville and consists of over 3000 acres of protected land. The trails are well marked and easy to follow, and they consist of a mix of long, flat trails and steep inclines. This spot offers plenty of shade, water sources for your dog, and plenty of sights to see. One of the most popular trails amongst dog owners is the Will Skelton Greenway.
