COVID-19 Statement from Young-Williams Animal Center

Young-Williams Animal Center is closely watching the situation surrounding the coronavirus. The safety and health of our animals, employees and visitors is our focus, and we appreciate the heartfelt support we have received from the community.

We are following updates from all relevant health care authorities and will continue to share information as it becomes available.

According to the CDC, the SPCA and the World Organisation for Animal Health, among others, there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread between humans and animals, including dogs or other pets.

The SPCA noted: “The primary mode of transmission of the virus remains human to human. You are no safer from the virus if you surrender your pet.”

The best way to keep yourself and your pet healthy is to practice good hygiene, such as washing your hands, and ensuring your pet receives regular veterinary care.

As the official shelter of Knox County and the City of Knoxville, we are the first stop for our community’s stray and lost animals. These furry friends have nowhere else to go. Please do not needlessly surrender your pets.
