What Your Support Makes Possible: Nevaeh and Oreo’s Story

Dear Friends,

This spring, as new life and new beginnings surround us, one truth shines brighter than ever: because of you, second chances are possible. But behind every happy ending is a moment of crisis – when someone needs help and hope feels out of reach. That’s when you make all the difference.

This is the story of Oreo’s second chance…

For David Berryhill and his family, Oreo is more than a pet. He is a beloved member of the family and the center of his young daughter’s world.

Oreo, a deaf eight-month-old pit bull puppy, had always been full of life, curiosity and an unstoppable appetite. So when he suddenly stopped eating and began having seizures, David knew something was terribly wrong.

Like so many loving pet owners, David was faced with an impossible choice. He feared Oreo may have swallowed part of a Christmas ornament, but the cost of emergency veterinary care was far beyond what his family could afford. Oreo’s life, and his daughter’s best friend, hung in the balance. David knew he had to act, even without knowing how he would pay for the care Oreo desperately needed.

Because of the launch of Young-Williams Animal Center’s new low-cost Care Clinic, Oreo was able to get immediate help.

He was quickly brought in for diagnostics, including x-rays, which revealed a serious and life-threatening condition. During emergency surgery, Dr. Neelie discovered that a foreign object had perforated Oreo’s intestines, causing extensive scar tissue to build up and block his digestive tract. Without surgery, Oreo would not survive.

Dr. Neelie carefully removed the scar tissue, repaired the damage and took the opportunity to neuter Oreo during the procedure, providing preventive care alongside lifesaving treatment. After surgery and recovery, Oreo returned home to the family who loves him and reclaimed his role as his daughter’s constant companion.

Oreo’s story is exactly why access to affordable veterinary care matters. Too often, families are forced to surrender or lose beloved pets simply because lifesaving care is financially out of reach. The new low-cost Care Clinic at Young-Williams exists to prevent those heartbreaking outcomes.

Today, Oreo is back safe, loved and thriving because of compassionate partners like you!

Oreo’s story isn’t unique. Every day, families face heartbreaking decisions when their pets need urgent care they simply cannot afford. Too often, the outcome is devastating loss. But it doesn’t have to be! With your support, you provide more second chances for pets like beloved Oreo and we can ensure more families never have to choose between financial hardship and saying goodbye to a companion.

Please, give today. Every donation, no matter the size, becomes a lifeline for pets and turns moments of crisis into stories of hope. Thank you for being a champion for animals and for the families who care for them. Right now, in this season of renewal, your kindness and generosity can change the course of a life waiting for a new beginning.

Warm Wishes,
