Young-Williams Animal Center is electing a local dog as the honorary Mayor of Scruffy City! The winning dog will be a symbol for Knoxville as the Pet-Friendliest City, have a plaque in the lobby of Young-Williams Animal Center and be invited as a guest of honor to our Mardi Growl Parade and Festival.
And the winner is…
Buchanan, or Canan for short, was adopted from Fighting for the Bullies around four and a half years ago. Canan’s owner soon learned about the stereotypes that surround pit bulls, and especially pit bulls that are as “big boned” as Canan. Despite this, Canan has managed to win over many folks who used to be wary with his easy going and “down-for-any-adventure-as-long-as-people-and-food-are-involved” personality. He also loves (and is a bit afraid of) his kitty sisters Mahboula, a Kuwaiti street cat rescue, and Knoxie, a Young-Williams rescue.
Like Knoxville, Canan adores and appreciates people and creatures of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. He is outdoorsy but also knows how to enjoy relaxation. He loves food, hanging out at local restaurants, and is a big supporter of local small businesses. In many ways, Canan is similar to Knoxville in that he was an underdog that has grown over the years to be loved and cherished by many.
As mayor, Canan pledges to promote diversity and inclusion, and to show the world that Scruffy can be Splendid! #truerescuelove #knoxrocks
