DESCRIPTION:We’ve teamed up with AIA East Tennessee to help shelter\, rehabilitate and find permanent homes for dogs and cats in Knox County. Barkitecture is a custom pet house design contest and silent auction that raises funds to care for the pets at Young-Williams Animal Center. \n  \nOur builds are complete and the auction is beginning on March 1\, 2020. To see the builds and bid in the auction\, visit: www.knoxbydesign.org/bark2021 \nHow it works:\n\nPull together a team of designers\, builders\, animal lovers\, and other interested individuals.\nDesign and build a custom doghouse or a cat tree.\nYour team will be paired with a local business\, where your one-of-a-kind creation will be displayed.\nSit back and let the bidding begin! Builds will be auctioned off online between February 22 – March 8.\nCompete for awards\, including Best in CATegory (Big Dog\, Little Dog\, Cat Tree)\, Most Sustainable Design and a People’s Choice Award.\n\nSign up to complete a build now! If you don’t have a pet\, you can still show these teams some love and vote for your favorite in our People’s Choice Awards. Explore the builds\, find out where to find them and learn how to bid below! \n \nThe Ruff Life by Johnson Architecture Inc.\nThis small dog house is perfect for people watching indoors or outdoors. Ain’t nothing about this life ruff\, your furry friend won’t even have to get out of bed to eat or drink\, as the bowl is built right in. \nCheck out this build at Mortgage Investors Group\, 8320 E Walker Springs Ln\, Knoxville\, TN 37923 \nMidMod Mutt by McCarty Holsaple McCarty\nThis large dog house seeks to bridge the gap between traditional indoor dog houses and functionality for both the pet and the parent. With a classis Mid-Century Modern look and feel\, this piece of furniture & house” will modestly blend in with it’s surrounding environment without compromising space\, function or style.  As a homage to one of MHM’s founding fathers\, Bruce McCarty\, MidMod Mutt pays a special tribute to his love and admiration for Mid-Century Modern architecture. \nFind this build at River Dog Bakery\, 5201 Kingston Pike Ste 8\, Knoxville\, TN 37919 \n001 by Jake Thomas\nThis cozy elevated cat stand is made with repurposed wooden wall furring strips\, cast-concrete “shoes\,” and held together with through-bolts and washers. From this perch\, your cat is sure to feel like a king and keep watch on everything the light touches. \nCheck out this build at Ionogen\, 6321 Baum Dr Knoxville 37919 \nCamp Bow Wow by Studio Fur & DeBark\nRecall the nostalgia of camping in the backyard on a warm summer night. Camp Bow Wow combines our love of the outdoors with a childhood sense of adventure. This project gives large dogs a variety of experiences so they may entertain themselves for hours on end. They can choose to snooze on the pooch porch or the husky hammock. If the weather turns\, they can tuck in to the ‘tent’. If you’ve got a lab that likes to lord over the land\, tether them to the tent tie down and let them roam the radius of your choosing. Give your dog the same experience  you had as a kid on summer vacation when there were a million-and-one things to do. This project was brought together via a mix of found and donated materials\, reimagined into a puppy play palace. A true design-build in nature\, Studio Fur and DeBark pooled our talents and resources together to outfit this house as a modern\, welcoming canine cabin. Rest assured your dog is enjoying the outdoors\njust as much as any kid on the block\, in the comfort of a fully-loaded\, bespoke dog house! \nExplore the world of possibilities inside this house at the Cumberland Hotel\, 1109 White Avenue Knoxville\, Tennessee 37916 \nK9 Comfort by BLS Thompson & Litton\nK9 Comfort is a very green dog house made entirely of recycled materials! The structure is made entirely from reclaimed pallet wood. The roof was covered by recycled waterproof envelopes to make a Tyvek-like weather protection layer and then tiled with laminate samples from the design team’s office. The interior is covered in carpet samples and the bars in the window are made from job site PVC leftovers. \nGet comfortable with this build at Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria\, 200 E Jackson Ave\, Knoxville\, TN 37915  \nNow that you’re familiar with the builds\, it’s time to get bidding! The silent auction will open on March 1 and run through March 8 at www.knoxbydesign.org. All funds raised during the online auction help lost\, scared and vulnerable pets in Knoxville find loving homes though Young-Williams Animal Center.
