In 2018\, for the first time in the history of our organization\, we achieved a 90%+ save rate\, earning our designation as a no-kill shelter and saving 8\,311 animals. This was a difficult decision\, and we explored all other scenarios before determining not to continue with the event tonight. We will reach out again as soon as we select a new date. Our staff and volunteers have worked extremely hard to prepare for an exciting night of saving lives\, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you in the near future. The official Young-Williams Animal Center 2023 Wall Calendar is sponsored by Mortgage Investors Group. \n All proceeds support the mission of Young-Williams Animal Center to lead the community to end pet homelessness\, promote animal welfare\, and enhance the human-animal bond. \nFundraisers like our 2023 Pet Calendar Contest are so important to our mission and helps animals in our care right now. Animals like Coda the puppy. Coda was rushed to UT Vet Hospital after being attacked by a wild animal and was stabilized before being transferred to Young-Williams for care. His small front leg was broken in multiple places but the injury didn’t stop him from snuggling up to our vet staff. At such a young age\, we knew amputation was not only the best medical path\, but that he would easily learn how to walk on three legs. Thanks to the Animal Compassion Fund\, he got the emergency vet care he needed and is now in a new home dedicated to keeping him safe and loved. Send a care package or bring an item from our kitten shower wish list. \n\n \nMeet Susie\nAfter an accident (falling off a big horse) and a 6 hour back surgery\, my doctor told me to take Pilates classes. I took my first class in 2005. My back is in better shape now than prior to my accident. \nI realized that I love Pilates so much that I wanted to teach it to others\, so they may benefit the way I have. Since I am already a teacher (elementary education)\, the teaching part has been an easy transition. The movements we do are also easy to teach since I have been doing them so long. I started my teacher training in 2012 and began teaching mat classes in 2013. I started my apparatus training in August 2018 and hope to complete it within a year! \nMy posture\, balance and body is in much better shape now than it ever has been. During our Foster a Pet Open House\, you’ll have the opportunity to ask current fosters and staff all your foster questions\, learn more about how fostering saves lives\, visit with some of our foster pets and those waiting for fosters and have a little fun with our furry friends. \n“Ending preventable euthanasia of shelter pets is possible today\,” said Susanne Kogut\, president of Petco Love. “Data tells us that if we could encourage 2% more of the 85-million pet-owning households to foster just one pet a year\, we can eliminate preventable euthanasia and save the lives of the 800\,000 shelter animals at risk of euthanasia in the U.S. annually.” \nBut fostering can be serious fun\, too. We are inviting the public to visit the shelter located at 6400 Kingston Pike\, on Saturday\, June 25 between 2:00 – 6:00 PM for an interactive foster meet-and-greet party for two-and four-legged friends. PetCo Love has provided goodies and giveaways for all those who attend our open house or share their #MyFosterBreakup story on social. \nThroughout June\, we are sharing the fun aspects of fostering while helping pet parents groove through their foster pet goodbyes.
