Animal Cruelty Investigations and the Link Between Animal Cruelty and Family Violence

Robyn Katz is a criminal justice consultant for the Animal Legal Defense Fund and currently serves full-time as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Austin, where she advises the public safety departments, including the Austin Police Department and the Austin Regional Intelligence Center. She will discuss many aspects of animal cruelty laws in the state of Tennessee, as well as common trends in the country on laws related to animal cruelty. The presentation will include case law that is relevant to Tennessee cruelty cases, the link between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence, best practices for law enforcement investigations,  and tools for prosecuting animal cruelty cases to a successful verdict.
