About Volunteer Program

The Animal Center needs volunteer help every day.  Volunteers are welcome at the main Center on Division Street and throughout the year at special events. Volunteers are required to:

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Attend a general orientation and all scheduled training
  • Donate at least six (6) hours each month to the animals for a minimum of one (1) year–longer commitments are welcome.  Shorter-term volunteering and court-assigned community service opportunities are not available.
  • Pay a one-time $25 volunteer program fee to cover the cost of name tags, shirts, printing (volunteer manual, articles about animal welfare), and other program expenses
  • Volunteer on a set schedule of their choosing.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Greet Visitors.
  • Walk and socialize dogs.
  • Help dogs with obedience skills.
  • Bathe dogs and puppies.
  • Play with cats.
  • Clean kennels and cages.
  • Answer phones.
  • Assist potential adopters.
  • Assist with fundraising and special events.
  • Help with administrative duties.
  • Help with education and outreach programming.
  • Help update our web site by assisting with pet photos and compiling pet information.
  • Foster animals short-term and long-term.
  • And more.
